A number of years ago, I had friends visiting the New Orleans area and they returned home raving about the Commander’s Palace. Several years later, I was in Louisiana and took some folks for lunch and I was hooked!
Located in the Garden District of New Orleans, this restaurant was established in 1880 and is world renowned for some of the finest foods that I have ever eaten. The unique blend of creole and ‘gourmet Southern’ has made this restaurant one of highest rated venues in the country.
Thankfully, I have had a business contact in the New Orleans area for many years… which has given me the opportunity to visit and dine there… he loves the restaurant as much as I. It is our offical luncheon spot. Several times per year for the past decade, I have enjoyed their hospitality.
Of all the things they serve, the Bread Pudding Souffle with Whiskey Sauce is my favorite. It is prepared with fresh baked French bread, served piping hot with a souffle top, then showered with heaping tablespoons of a creamed whiskey sauce. Although a Southern Baptist, I am rather partial to this whiskey sauce!
If you want to impress your friends and family with a mouth watering dessert, this is it. However, it will take some time to prepare. Check out the Commander’s website for the recipe. www.commanderspalace.com
My sister (Brundi Starling Crawford) and her family live in Springdale, Arkansas. She is the youngest in our family. She is an avid lover of cats and still cries over the loss of our childhood pets. A big heart to say the least.
Brundi is a highly acclaimed educator who was recognized by her peers for outstanding ability shortly after her first couple of years teaching in Palm Beach County.
Both my parents are pretty great cooks (even my Dad), and Brundi learned much from my mother. Over the years I have loved eating at Brundi’s because she makes awesome yeast rolls, peach pie, lasagna and this one particular salad (it has no name). The salad has a unique flavor and when the lettuce is blended with the sugar, vinegar and egg, it comes alive. I suppose I like this recipe because it calls for SHREDDED lettuce. Shredded is terrific in my book. Everyone raves about it, and it is basic and easy.
Like most Southern homes, the dinner table is always full of food. No one goes away hungry when Brundi is cooking.
Brundi’s Special Salad
1 head of lettuce (Shredded)
1 cup grated cheddar cheese
3 boiled eggs (sliced)
1 big scoop of mayonnaise
¼ cup of sugar
3 T. Vegetable Oil
4 T. vinegar
Lay down lettuce
Sprinkle cheese
Place sliced eggs on top
Scoop Mayo on top
Sprinkle Sugar
Add Vegetable Oil
Add Vinegar
Toss everything together….The Mayo, Sugar, Oil, and Vinegar can be added according to your liking.
Enjoy!
