Hello Foodies,
Great responses yesterday to the ‘cash call’.
A big round of applause to Foodies Tim & Susan Moffett of Eunice, Louisiana for organizing a big meal for all the evacuees staying in their area. Tim & Sue are good friends from college and have hearts of gold.
Today is Day #2 in Living2Eat’s call to action. I urge you to look around, survey what others are doing to help Texas — a clothing drive, car wash, fund drive, food collection, etc. Are these efforts geared toward children, teens, elderly, etc?
Focus your efforts in one area and begin to help that organization and/or entity in their collection drives. Make a list of ten friends, contact each of them and enlist their support to help secure the sought after items.
Example: The Salvation Army needs baby supplies. You make ten phone calls to friends and ask each of them for one particular kind of item — shampoo, diaper rash ointment, formula, diapers, wipes, powder, baby wash, baby food, etc. Be sure and give your friends a collection date and time. Phone them half way with an encouraging word and reminder of rapidly approaching deadline.
Make a difference for Texas!

In the midst of tragedy some folks spring into action, some are paralyzed by fear, and some wander aimlessly waiting to be led. Times of crises are defining chapters where the best, and worst, are made known.
The State of Texas needs assistance, and our faithful prayers. Take a break from your busy day and reflect on your blessings, and ask God to help those in Texas who are in desperate need.
An urgent need in any disaster is cash.
Today, go online to the Salvation Army or Red Cross and give to their disaster relief efforts. These immediate donations will serve to bolster the rapidly draining coffers to these fine organizations that are always there in times of emergency.
Enlist your children to join in and give a ‘noisy’ donation – scavange the house and car for loose change. Yes, those pennies do add up! No need to actually count it, just fill a jar or Ziplock bag.
Day #1 of helping Texas: Cash. Donate today.

Dear Foodies,
The great State of Texas has just started down a long path to recovery. Hurricane Ike has been devastating to the Gulf Coast cities and caused billions of dollars in damage. Simply put, Ike has left a catastrophic mark on Texas history.

As someone who has visited the Lonestar State for years, I can tell you that some great cookin’ takes place there and it is without fail known for true Southern hospitality. Men automatically know how to open the door for a lady, children end their responses with ‘ma’am’ or ’sir’, and ladies dress in their Sunday finest for every occasion. Perhaps this glimpse of Texas is symbolic of a bygone era, but I do believe that true Texans’ still hold dear to their roots.
In honor of the great State of Texas, we will pay tribute to this expanse of land with all things Texas this week. Please use this website as a reminder to do a little something this week to make Texas’ road to recovery a little shorter — perhaps bake a few Texas dishes and ask friends to donate to a little fundraising drive, donate to the Salvation Army relief fund, contact your pastor and lead a collection (clothing, canned goods, etc) effort. These actions can be theme oriented by cooking Texas recipes, decorating with old boots, cowboy hats, cactus and spurs. Think outside of the box and be creative, but DO SOMETHING.
All the best,
Ben
P.S. Whatever you do to assist, take a picture or two and comment about it on the site as a means of encouraging others. Remember, everyone can do something!
